Bulgarian painting excursion 28 June to 4 July 2024
Oil painting: Der Charme der Verwitterung (The charm of weathered surfaces)
I am very lucky to be a tutor for regular painting holidays in north-west Bulgaria in the summer. This is a wild and undiscovered part of the Europe with extraordinary history, landscape and culture. The holiday is one week and all costs are included. The Volkshochschule will be handling the reservations for 2024. The trip is planned for September 2024.
I hold intensive workshops exploring different techniques and a critical look at composition and colour. Everyone will complete at least two paintings during the week in addition to excursions to the local sights. All materials are provided. I speak German and English, our guide and host Mihaela speaks German, English and Bulgarian.

Der Charme der Verwitterung (The charm of weathered surfaces)
The differences between Bulgaria and Germany are striking and this inspires us to paint. We see old houses, many of them empty, barns, metal gates and overgrown walls. It is often the surfaces that become aesthetically interesting through wear and weather that challenge us artistically. Explore the diverse weathered surfaces around Belimel and learn the different techniques you can use to paint such motifs in oil. You will receive general information on oil painting as well as individual guidance for your own projects. There will also be time for excursions: discover the extraordinary landscape, which is also suitable for hiking, the colourful beauty of Orthodox art, traditional handicrafts and Bulgarian culture.
